Pinwheel Quilt

I was actually able to finish a baby quilt! My awesome friend, Kelli, gave me the inspiration to make this Pinwheel quilt. She recently made one for one of her friends and posted a picture of it on Instagram. Her quilt looked amazing & she said it didn't take too long to make because she cut each block of fabric 10 x 10. So, making the quilt really did go pretty fast. My husband's cousin, Courtney, found out she was having a baby girl. So far I haven't had the opportunity to make a quilt for a little girl. This quilt was a lot of fun and it took me out of my color schemes 'comfort zone' that I usually use.  I sure hope this quilt will keep little Viviana nice and warm once she arrives in October. Well, I'm not sure she'll need any extra help staying warm since she will be living in Tampa, Florida. Maybe it can be her tiny beach blanket? :)

Quilt for Baby Provenzale-McVey

Two of my friends are expecting a baby soon. (End of September/ early October). I wanted to make them a handmade gift, but finding time to do that was a little hard. So I decided to take a faster route in order to get the quilt finished in time. I put cotton batting between two pieces of fabric and hand stitched them together using black and green perle cotton then added some binding. I have had the lion/tiger fabric for awhile & I've been waiting for the perfect reason to use it.

Animal Quilt for Milo

A few weeks before Milo was born I saw the Kokka Japan, Winter 2013, Animal Spots Natural fabric at Sew to Speak and I had to buy some!  For this quilt all I did was hand quilt around each of the animals using a variety of different colors of perle cotton.

 

For the back side of this quilt I used some left over fabric from some projects that went in Milo's room. I wanted to keep this quilt really simple because it was the last project I worked on right before I went into the hospital.  I ended up liking the front of this quilt so much I really wish I would have picked a fabric for the back side that matched the front a little better. But overall I think the front is cute enough to make up for the back :)

Herringbone Quilt for Milo

Hunter and I will be having a baby boy in April. So I figured there is no better time than now to start on some projects from him. Here is the herringbone quilt I made for him:

A couple of the fabrics I got when we were on vacation in Paris. The rest of the fabric I purchased at Sew to Speak. I finished this quilt in about 3 days. Hunter's band spent last weekend recording & I spent those days sewing away!!

Hot Air Balloon Quilt

The quilt below is for my friends Jessica & Jeremy. They already have an adorable daughter and in a few months they will be adding a little boy to their family. When I decided to make a quilt for the new baby, I referred back to a picture Fritz posted on Instagram of what she was going to use for her inspiration for decorating the baby's room. Then I started looking for fabric that had hot air balloons on it. What I didn't realize was that the picture she posted was actually of HOT AIR BALLOON FABRIC! So, once I figured that out, my search for hot air balloon fabric was over.

Chicago

This weekend we went on a road trip to Chicago. I passed the time during the 6 hour car ride adding hand stitching to a quilt. When we got to Chicago we saw Refused and Off, which was an amazing show! Then the rest of the weekend consisted of walking, eating, shopping & hanging out with some awesome pups! Huge thanks to Kate for letting us stay at her apartment!

 (We stopped in at a Whole Foods in Indy for lunch. About a half hour before I got there, I dropped the one and only needle I had been using on this quilt. So, we had to make an emergency stop before we got back on the freeway to find some more needles.)

I had the vegan version of the EGG-BISCUIT SAMMY which was: tofu on a country biscuit, with seitan sausage, creole mustard, potato hash with vegan cheese and bacon. We also shared a vegan milkshake, but unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of that.)

 (Friday night dinner at Handlebar. My favorite thing there is the Buffalo 'Chicken' Wrap. It's great! But I totally didn't remember to take a picture until my food was half way gone.)

While I was putting together this post, I realized that I took a million pictures of Oliver and I didn't take any pictures of Kate. I feel like such a failure! 

 

chevron/zig zag quilt

Today I finished the top of this quilt! I suppose it would fall in the chevron or zig zag category. This is the quilt that inspired this project and here is the pattern that I based my quilt off of.

The past few weeks have been very eventful! Friends had a baby, other friends got married & tons of friends were visiting from out of town. Then to top everything off, a huge storm attacked Clintonville and there is a chance we might not have our power turned back for another week. So, I haven't been able to work on my sewing project and it's been a little too hot for me to want to knit. Last weekend I didn't make a dent into all of the crafty projects I wanted to work on. And now I have another top secret project I need to start working on in between both of these projects! FUN!

 

 (This is the beginning of a blanket me & Meghan (plus a few other friends) are working on for Walter. Hopefully we'll get this done before he is too big to use it!)

New fabric means it is time to start on a new quilt!

This weekend I picked out some new fabric while I was at Sew to Speak. Tonight I decided to started on a new quilting project. Fabric strips have been cut and I figured out what order I'll most likely put the fabric in. Once I make a little more progress, I'll most more pictures and post a link to the pattern I'm 99% sure I'll going to use.
